Thomas M. Hanson

MD, FACOG

Dr. Hanson started this practice in 1977, and while he no longer delivers babies he takes great pride in caring for his patients, many of whom he delivered himself years ago. Dr. Hanson received his undergraduate degree from Dartmouth College in Hanover, New Hampshire. He then attended Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons in New York City. He completed his residency at Yale New Haven Hospital and has been a member of the community ever since. While building our practice he also earned a master’s degree in healthcare administration from the University of New Haven. In addition to his role serving patients he also served as a member of the Board of Trustees of Yale New Haven Hospital and he was Chairman of the Patient Safety and Clinical Quality Committee. He lives in Guilford with his wife.

Musa Speranza

MD, FACOG

Dr. Speranza, who is named after her maternal grandmother, grew up in New Jersey. She received her undergraduate education at Oberlin College, where she studied performance oboe and neuroscience. She graduated with honors from Albert Einstein College of Medicine and completed her residency at Yale New Haven Hospital. Dr. Speranza has practiced obstetrics and gynecology for many years and has a particular interest in menopause and treatment of menopausal symptoms. She is a long standing member for the North American Menopause society. She has been named by Connecticut Magazine as one of “Connecticut’s Top Doctors” multiple times. Her husband, Dr. Joseph Shin, is the Chief of Plastic Surgery at Dartmouth Hitchcock Hospital. They maintain permanent residences in Branford, CT and Hanover, NH and have two grown children.

Steven Fleischman

MD, MBA, FACOG

Dr. Fleischman grew up in New York. He received his undergraduate degree from Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri. He attended Albany Medical College and completed his residency at Yale New Haven Hospital. He completed his MBA in 2021. He is actively involved in organized medicine and has held key roles in multiple medical organizations, including the American Medical Association, Connecticut State Medical Society and American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, where he serves on the Executive Board. Dr. Fleischman is the Associate Chief of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Yale New Haven Hospital and serves on the Medical Executive Committee. He is active in his community, where he was elected to the Woodbridge Board of Education and was President of Congregation B’nai Jacob, the Jewish Federation of Greater New Haven and Chair of the Jewish Foundation of Greater New Haven. He has a busy, dynamic life and lives in Milford with his wife and four children.

Michael Reel

MD, FACOG

Dr. Reel grew up in New Jersey. He received his undergraduate degree from Columbia University and a Master in Business Administration with high honors from the University of Chicago. After working in the financial field for a number of years, he returned to Columbia for his premedical studies. He graduated from Yale School of Medicine, where he received the ACOG Connecticut section award for academic excellence in Obstetrics and Gynecology and completed his residency at Yale University School of Medicine. He has been featured on the Connecticut and New York Magazine’s “Top Doctor” lists for a number of years. Dr. Reel lives in Madison with his wife and their two daughters.

Margaret Baumbush

MD, FACOG

Dr. Baumbusch was born in Connecticut and grew up in New York and Colorado. She earned a bachelor’s degree in economics from Columbia University and worked in healthcare investment banking in San Francisco for several years before returning to school to pursue a career in medicine. She graduated cum laude from Yale University School of Medicine and was awarded honors for her thesis on preeclampsia and preterm birth. She completed her residency at Stanford University in California, where she received awards for surgical excellence as well as compassionate patient care. She serves on the Obstetrics Safety Committee at Yale New Haven Hospital. She has a busy and active life as the mother of four boys!

Meagan Haynes

MD, FACOG

Dr. Campol Haynes was born in Canada and grew up in South Florida. She graduated magna cum laude from the University of Florida Honors Program. She then attended medical school at Albert Einstein College of Medicine and completed her residency at New York University, earning multiple awards for her research, surgical skills and commitment to teaching. She also received a master’s degree from the Harvard School of Public Health. She has a strong interest in global health and has volunteered in rural clinical settings across the world. Her research interests include reproductive health and gender inequality. Here at Yale, Dr. Haynes chairs the multidisciplinary Committee to Support Vaginal Birth. She lives in New Haven with her two children.

Grace Lessard

DNP, CNM

Grace graduated from Fairfield University with her Bachelor of Science degree in nursing with a minor in Spanish language. For six years, Grace worked as a registered nurse at Yale New Haven Hospital in Women’s Services. Grace returned to Fairfield University to pursue her Doctor of Nursing Practice in midwifery, as a member of the inaugural graduating class. For her graduate research, Grace completed a qualitative study exploring the influence of prenatal yoga on birth experience and maternal role adjustment. Grace currently lives with her fiancé in Black Rock.

Elizabeth Ackley

MD, FACOG

Dr. Ackley received her undergraduate degree from Georgetown University in Washington, DC, where she majored in mathematics and minored in French language. She was the captain of Georgetown’s Bioethics Debate Team and received Georgetown University’s Ethics Award for her work leading the team to several national championships. She graduated with distinction from New York University School of Medicine, where she served as the Director for the New York City Women’s Health Free Clinic. She completed her OB/GYN residency at Yale New Haven Hospital, where she was elected chief resident and performed research on the effects of Pitocin in labor. Her husband, Dr. William Ackley, is a nephrologist at Yale. She currently lives in New Haven with her husband two children.

Chelsea Carter

MSN, APRN, FNP-BC

Born and raised in Connecticut, Chelsea eagerly joined the Sound team in the Spring of 2022. Chelsea obtained her bachelor’s degree in nursing from the University of Saint Joseph. As a RN, she worked on YNHH’s Labor & Delivery and Maternal Special Care Units for six years. During this time she was honored with The DAISY Award for extraordinary compassionate patient care. She went on to earn her master’s degree as a Family Nurse Practitioner at Sacred Heart University and continued her career in women’s health. Chelsea currently lives in Middletown with her husband, their newborn son, rescue puppy, and cat.
